With recreational marijuana legalization exploding, it was a breath of fresh air to wander through a quaint, medical-only cannabis garden filled to the brim with glistening trichomes. If you’re familiar with concentrates around Denver and hold a “purple” MMJ card, chances are you’ve visited Standing Akimbo. The dispensary is owned by Colorado natives and operated by a team of passionate cannabis enthusiasts. They grow a plethora of signature strains that patients love, including their Honey Banana and Grease Monkey. I frequent this shop, as it’s easily accessible when cruising around Denver.

Upon walking into the garden led by assistant grower Pat Bruscia who works directly under Owner and Grow Master, John Murphy, I immediately noticed the different ages of the plants throughout the room. It’s a truly unique experience being able to see the plant in each stage of life. There were numerous strains: Flo Cookies, White Diesel, Gorilla Glue #4, Redi Jedi and Blueberry Skunk. Some plants were only a few weeks into flower and sprouted fresh pistils, others blossomed with stacked calyxes and intense aromas. Their vegetation room, where these ladies begin their life, was a unique setup—pots were stacked in a stadium-style setting, which maximizes space and light exposure.
