Documents
First and foremost, you need to prove that you are a Colorado resident and be 18 years of age or order. The easiest way to do this is by presenting a Colorado Driver’s License or Identification Card. Depending on the doctor, you may be able to present a proof of residency such as a signed lease. Please keep in mind this is a sketchy option at best, and shouldn’t be your first choice. While you don’t usually need to bring in medical documentation from your personal medical care professional, it certainly makes things easier. Picking Your Doctor
Once you have your documentation in hand or at the ready, it’s time to pick a medical doctor to speak to about your prescription. Depending on what malady you are communicating to your doctor, you may be entitled to what’s known as an Extended Plant Count or EPC. The illnesses that qualify the use of medical cannabis include; Cancer, Glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, Cachexia, Persistent Muscle Spasms, Seizures, Severe Nausea, Severe Pain and in some cases, PTSD. Usually, doctors will charge you a bit more if you’d like them to do the paperwork for you, including mailing it in. I personally was quite giddy to drop the paperwork off at the post office myself and didn’t mind a bit of extra effort to save some cash. That being said, nothing wrong with having to not worry about it.
Post Office
Once you receive notification via the Postal Service over whether you have been approved for your medical card, there’s a few things you should know. Do not laminate or seal your printed out copy, it invalidates the card and most places will not accept it. We recommend a folder dedicated to keeping your card in. Folding it into a wallet might seem more timely, but it will lead to headaches in the future when it becomes unreadable. Should you choose to log in to the Colorado electronic registry service, we recommend picking an easy to remember password and username. It is from that site that you will be able to download a digital copy of your med card. The digital medical cannabis card is ONLY valid in its PDF form, no screenshots or other file types acceptable. Keep in mind most places require a paper copy the first time you visit.
