Share this post with your friends

Looking for some unique cannabis pairings for your Christmas dinner feast? We have some delicious suggestions to add to your roster to create a full flavor profile experience starting with your preferred smoke appetizer to the sweet dessert finish.

A little about terpenes:

Terpenes are a chemical component found in plants that give a recognizable flavor and aroma. While you can find them in most plants (and some insects), they are found in high quantities in the cannabis plant. When you open a jar of Sour Diesel, the skunky smell that hits your nose is the plant terpenes. To enhance your sensory experience this holiday season, we have some suggestions about how to best pair your favorite strains with some traditional holiday favorite meals.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular cannabis terpenes and some recipes that amplify the flavors of your medical marijuana.

Pinene

The terpene Pinene tastes and smells like it sounds – like pine. Some studies have shown that Pinene can offer anti-inflammatory properties, could help with bronchodilation, and can act as a stimulant. This terpene is most commonly found in strains like Jack Herer, Blue Dream, Island Sweet Skunk, OG Kush, and Strawberry Cough. When considering how to pair these flower, shatter, and wax flavors, you can look at the profiles of culinary herbs and pair them accordingly. Herbs high in pinene are parsley, dill, rosemary, and orange peels.

Garnishing your dinner meat with parsley or rosemary would be a great pairing with a strain like Blue Dream. One spin on a Christmas roast is a beef rib roast with a rosemary garlic glaze. Read the full recipe here.

Caryophyllene

Caryophyllene is a terpene with a spicy scent and flavor most commonly found in black pepper, clove, and cinnamon. Studies have shown that this pungent terpene can offer analgesic effects and may help alleviate anxiety and depression. Cannabis strains like OG Kush, Bubba Kush, Sour Diesel, and Chemdawg are high in this terpene. Herbs like oregano, basil, hops, and rosemary have been tested to be high in this terp.

A strain like OG Kush would be a great addition for the roast above, as well as a side, like broccoli. Broccoli is known to be high in beta-caryophyllene, as well as, an antioxidant. Looking for a simple broccoli side? Read the recipe here

Linalool

The perfect way to ease into your after dinner coma. This calming terp is most commonly recognized in lavender. A mild, flowery aroma with a hint of spice. Studies have shown some therapeutic effects as a sedative and an anti-microbial. It has been shown that mice have lowered levels of anxiety and depression when exposed to linalool vapor. Most abundantly found in Kosher Kush, Romulan, and Sour Kush, lull your evening to a close with an after dinner smoke with these buds.

Slightly on the sweet side, it’s an exceptional pairing with a dessert. If you’re a chocolate lover, try this Dark Chocolate Lavender Tart recipe. Read it here.

Whatever you choose to pair with your Christmas dinner, we hope you have a great holiday! Remember to stop in today before 3pm to stock up for your holiday needs with flower, wax, live resin, shatter, edibles, vape pens, or whatever else you may need.
